Hens Waking up, Later Scared into the big Coop

I checked my other cams and saw what seemed to be a bird being captured by a hawk a short distance from the chicken run.

I think you should buy those girls some bunk beds so they donā€™t have to sleep perched on a stick.

And they say you arenā€™t empathetic.

The :chicken: :chicken: scurrying back into the coop is kinda funny sped up to 2x.

I tried that already but they kept popping in them.

Yeah haha. Iā€™m just glad theyā€™re fenced in and thereā€™s bird netting over the entire run. Iā€™ll be making some changes after I get back.

Now I see why they call someone ā€˜chickenā€™ when they are afraid to fight.

Haha, yup.

Wouldnā€™t infrared (IR) LED cause harm to the chickens? If you Google, constantly IR LED could damage human eyes. Same thing could apply to other animals.

Supposedly, chickens can see IR. The lux intensity from a Wyze cam would be equivalent to light from a full moon.

I hope that people would stop doing it to the animals. I have seen many live stream channels with IR on their animals.

Thatā€™s good to know. Well, I donā€™t have them anymore, so next time Iā€™ll figure something else out.

I donā€™t believe it ā€œbothersā€ chickens nor does it cause damage. It may disrupt sleep cycle though. Most use IR as a predator deterrent as predatorsā€™ eyes are more sensitive to IR and thus canā€™t stealthily prey. Large-scale chicken production facilities value periods of complete darkness, including IR. But there is no way for predators to enter those facilities during sleep cycle. Hobbyists and farms who use IR typically reflect the IR off a wall. I use IR to keep the foxes at bay.

I donā€™t plan on not using the cams in the coops. But I may just not use the IR lights if there is jsut enough light coming in from the backyard pole light. My chickens havenā€™t seemed to have problems when I had them.
