Default starter solenoid rebuild?

hey folks,

so the starter is an All-*****, about 6 years old... not many miles, really... time for a solenoid rebuild?

having trouble starting her, getting that machine-gun clicking going on... all connections are solid...tested relay, fine... charged battery, at about 12.7.... haven't load tested it yet, though

figured i'd take a look at the solenoid, and this is what i found.... normal, or are these contacts really worn?

You probably have a broken wire in the solenoid coil.

one trick is to pop the copper ring off and turn it around! Then clean up its mating surface and your good to go.

A lot of aftermarket starters do not have the solenoid coil retainer staked tight enough into the housing which causes the coil to rattle around and break the winding or cause a poor ground for the pull in coil.

... and worn contacts like what I posted are symptomatic of that?

Yes, because the solenoid plunger & the moving contact chatters on the fixed contacts and arcs.
