In Vogue’s round-up of autumn’s hottest hair trends, the “face-framing fringe” appears as a key look. Whether it’s a side-swept curtain bang or feathered layers, the closing months of 2022 are all about embracing flattering bangs. One of the styles making the most emphatic comeback? The full fringe.

More difficult to pull off than its halfway-house counterparts, the full fringe is really having a moment. Just see Lily Collins, who attended the Time 100 Next gala in New York on Tuesday wearing an immaculately cut full fringe. Skimming her eyelashes, but slightly shorter in the centre of her face, Lily’s blunt-cut fringe was paired with a modern beehive at the crown of her head.

The beehive wasn’t the only nod to the ’60s about Collins’s look. Her eye make-up also paid homage to the era, when eyes were nearly always the focal point of a beauty look. With pale eyeshadow, two graphic lines on both lash lines and chunky spider-like lashes, Collins finished the look with a nude lip. It was reminiscent of that time she walked 2018’s Met Gala red carpet (the theme: Heavenly Bodies: Fashion & The Catholic Imagination), in full Priscilla Presley-esque hair and make-up.

Collins joins Bella Hadid and Anne Hathaway in sporting autumn’s most popular hairstyle – and the more graphic, the better. Be warned, though, it doesn’t work for everyone. If you are considering trying the look, work with your hairstylist to find a style that works for you and your face shape.
