Princess Iman of Jordan Wore Her Mother Queen Rania's Wedding Belt to Her Henna Party

Princess Iman of Jordan is getting ready to marry Jameel Thermiotis. Ahead of their nuptials, which will take place on Sunday, March 12, 2023, the Jordanian princess kicked off the festivities with a pre-wedding henna party that her mother, Queen Rania, hosted on March 7, 2023. While getting henna painted on her hands and feet, the bride-to-be sported a stunning outfit that included a touching nod to her mother. The princess donned a long-sleeve white dress covered in sparkly embellishments by Reema Dahbour, and she added a sentimental finishing touch: the same wedding belt the queen wore on her wedding day to King Abdullah II on June 10, 1993. The accessory in question includes a white band embellished with gold floral accents and a pearl-encrusted belt buckle. A silk sash with a floral embroidered border is suspended from the buckle. 

On March 7, 2023, the queen posted about the getting-ready process on Instagram with a photo of herself adjusting her daughter’s belt. “Finishing touches before Iman’s Henna party tonight,” the caption says. The designer of the piece, Reema Rahbour, was one of the first people to comment on the post. “It’s a moment of pride where, as a Jordanian fashion designer, I am deeply honored to see our piece on Princess Iman on such a special day congratulations to our royal family!” she exclaims.

In a follow-up post after the celebration occurred, Rania uploaded a carousel of photos from the event, along with the caption, “So much love in one room! With friends and family at Iman’s Henna party yesterday.” The first snap shows the mother-daughter duo embracing in a warm hug, followed by moments from the ceremony and a portrait with Princess Aisha bint Hussein, Princess Muna al-Hussein, and Princess Zein bint Hussein.  

When Rania married Abdullah 30 years earlier, she wore a custom Bruce Oldfield dress featuring gold floral embellishments and short sleeves. She paired her look with a matching jacket, white gloves, a sweeping veil, pearl and diamond drop earrings, and the same belt that she just loaned her daughter. According to Express, the designer drew inspiration for the ensemble from formal Syrian dresses on display at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. After trading vows, the bride changed into a second look designed by Oldfield: a sleeveless dress with a V-neck and similar embroidery to her ceremony getup. 

A week before the big day, Rania commemorated this next chapter in her daughter's life by sharing a video montage documenting Iman's growth through the years. The clip ended with a snap of the princess wearing her mother’s diamond tiara. Although the queen chose to ditch tradition by wearing a beaded headband instead of the expected crown for her big day, it’s unclear whether her daughter will follow suit for her nuptials.
