Complex Signatures are safe – Myth Busted

Signatures are the distinctive way of writing own name indicating or authorizing anything be it a cheque or a document.

Legible signatures are easy to read and mention the name of the signatory who signed that document.

Signature

Illegible signature (complex signature) here means that the signature is executed in a way that the name is not readable or is formed as strokes.

Signature Sign

Several different methods are used to forge signatures. One of the methods that provide the most convincing results is the “free hand method”, where by the forger, replicates the signature after care full practice which is a difficult method to perfect.

Human beings pre-suppose that having an illegible signature or stylish signature gives an advantage to them for not getting their signatures forged or to get copied. And clear and readable signatures offer no such advantage and gives easy access to forgers to copy or trace their signatures easily.”

We as Forensic Experts, however, would like to break this notion or a myth as whatever understanding of the illegible signature is completely erroneous.

An illegible signature is easy to copy as it has very many stroke formations and does not have clear letters or formation. On the other side, a legible signature has clear letter formations and with less or no formation of strokes which has clear readable form. Thus, giving legible signatures an advantage over not getting copied or traced easily.

From next time, while signing an important document keep this in mind and do not change signatures without consulting a signature and handwriting expert as it can have repercussions on the signatory’s financial condition and overall life.
