David Villa, the scorer of the Spanish National Team at World Cups

The Asturian is the top scorer of the National team in the tournament with nine goals.

Spain is just one goal away from reaching 100 goals at World Cups, a great number difficult to achieve. José Iraragorri opened the scoring with a penalty making it 3-1 over Brazil in the 1934 World Cup. It was in Genoa, on 27 May, and it was Spain's first victory in the most prestigious tournament of sports.

Since then, 47 more Spanish internationals have scored in a World Cup. There are some distinguished names and others that just catch the eye, since there are not many prolific players in scoring. Anyways, this list is headed by David Villa, considered a predator.

CHECK DAVID VILLA'S CAREER WITH THE NATIONAL TEAM (SPANISH)

The Asturian is still the international with the most goals wearing the national team jersey with 59 goals in 98 matches. Nine of those goals were scored in the World Cup. He scored three in Germany 2006, five in the unforgettable tournament in South Africa (he won the Silver Shoe Award) and one in Brazil 2014.

Far away from Villa, with five goals, we find Emilio Butragueño (all in Mexico 1986), Fernando Hierro (one in USA 1994, two in France 1998 and another two in Korea and Japan 2002), Fernando Morientes (two in France and three in Korea and Japan) and Raúl González (one in France, three in Korea and Japan and one in Germany). Julio Salinas, Hierro, Raúl and Villa are the only players to have scored in three different World Cups.
