A Florida man has been arrested and charged with child abuse after a nude teenager jumped out of a third story window after an alleged beating, according to authorities.

The 41-year-old man was arrested on Feb. 7 and charged with abuse of a child without grave bodily harm after the child ran to a nearby pharmacy, according to an arrest affidavit reviewed by PEOPLE.

Authorities stated in the affidavit that the boy shared the Gainesville, Fla., residence with the man but did not disclose how the two are related. PEOPLE is not identifying the man to protect the victim's identity.

According to the affidavit, the suspect told authorities that he came home and noticed the 15-year-old boy had not done his chores. He stated that he then made the boy “strip down completely nude” and disciplined him, per the affidavit.

The suspect said he was upset with the child because of several incidents of “disrespect” prior to the alleged assault, per the affidavit. He allegedly told authorities that he assaulted the victim between 15 to 30 times with a belt, per the affidavit.

When he left the room he said he heard “the window shatter” in the child’s bedroom and “ran downstairs to check on him,” per the affidavit.

The child claimed to authorities that the man was upset with him over a video he was watching and punched him several times in the head, according to the affidavit.

A neighbor told authorities that she heard a commotion from the defendant's apartment and then heard glass shatter, per the affidavit.

“She looked out of her window and saw the victim hanging from the window screaming ‘help me,’” the affidavit states. The victim was later found bleeding at a pharmacy and asking for help.

Authorities noted “dark red bruising in lines” on the teen that appeared consistent with injuries from a belt, the affidavit states.

“The injuries appeared to go beyond corporal punishment,” authorities state in the affidavit.

A witness told authorities that they saw the child bleeding and naked while they were out shopping, News 4 JAX reported.

“I was stunned.” Patricia Jackson said, per the outlet. “The tissue that we were about to purchase wasn’t enough to clean up the blood that I saw. There was a lot of bloodshed.”

The defendant is being held on $100,000 bond, jail records show. Attorney information was not immediately available and it isn’t clear if he has entered a plea.
