Eitaro Sohonpobegan making Japanese confectionery in 1818, and is known for coming up with the original amanatto (sugared azuki beans) product “Amananatto,” the aruheito (Japanese-style toffee) product “Umeboshi-ame,” and more. Eitaro Sohonpo’s various efforts have been covered in the “NEWS” section of the Edo Tokyo Kirari Project, of which they are a member. Recently, they have garnered attention for their collab products – a Japanese confection developed with and sold at a major fast food chain, and a confection developed with a foreign tea brand. Currently, their limited-edition summer kakigori (Japanese-style shaved ice) is available at the Nihonbashi E-Chaya cafe in the Nihonbashi Main Store. The summer this year has felt even more brutal than usual. Why not cool off and take a breather with a kakigori by Eitaro Sohonpo?
This year, there are three types of kakigori offered – the “Ujikintoki (Shaved Ice with Uji Matcha Green Tea and Sugared Beans) – Yamamotoyama x Eitaro” and the “Peach and Cream Cheese – Kawanakajima Hakuto Peach Espuma” that were popular last year, as well as the new “Amaou Strawberry Milk – Fukuoka Prefecture Amaou Strawberry and Eitaro Original Milk Syrup.” This new product is made with two types of syrup – the Amaou strawberry syrup, made with a base of puréed Fukuoka Prefecture Amaou strawberry, and the Eitaro original milk syrup, made by adding mitsuame (Japanese-style syrup candy) aruheito toffee to milk from the Konsen area of Hokkaido Prefecture. The sweetness of the milk syrup pairs exquisitely with the juiciness and tartness of the strawberry.

And in another piece of good news, the Eitaro Sohompo Nihonbashi collab confection that was available last April as alimited-editionitem is now available for this summer only! Take this as an opportunity to try the “Katsubushi Soft Ice Cream,” developed in collaboration with katsuobushi (bonito flake) specialty store NINBEN, which was established over 300 years ago, and the “Uji Matcha Latte,” made with Uji matcha green tea by long-established Japanese maker Yamamotoyama.
